Energy & Industry Qatarization Steering Committee Meeting
The Steering Committee of the Strategic Qatarization Plan in the Energy and Industry Sector held its 14th meeting on 3 October in the Four Seasons Hotel.
The meeting, chaired by Mr. Essa Rashid Al-Kaabi, Qatar Petroleum’s Director Administration, and in the presence of Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Jassim Al-Thani, Manager Human Resources, QP, was attended by human resource representatives from 28 companies including QP and its affiliates.
In his opening remarks Mr. Al-Kaabi welcomed the committee members and introduced four new companies - Gulf Drilling International (GDI), Seef Limited, Q-Power and Al Koot - to the Energy & Industry Sector Qatarization Plan (E&I SQP). He noted that with these new companies the E&I SQP has 30 member companies.
In her presentation at the beginning of the meeting, Ms Khadra Dualeh, Director of Professional Development & International Education, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Qatar shared the opportunity they represent to support Qatarization by providing high caliber graduates, partnering to meet business needs and internships. She encouraged the member companies to create internship opportunities for Qatari Students attending CMU in their IT program.
This was followed by a presentation from QP Human Resources Department focusing on the E&I university preparation program and the admission requirements to nominate students for international scholarships in industry related sciences.
Committee members also received and endorsed a revised strategy and approach to be adopted by member companies to report their Qatarization Plans from 1 January 2006 and beyond. This was followed by a lively, full-committee discussion on ideas for restructuring the next Annual Review Meeting (2Q 2006), which is held under the patronage of HE Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Petroleum.
Sector gears up for the end of the 2000 – 2005 Strategic Qatarization Plan
All companies participating in the Strategic Qatarization Plan are preparing for the review meeting tracking Qatarization progress during the past five years. December 31, 2005 is of special significance as the date to consider achievements made and barriers removed in meeting targets that were set as per the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
