October - December 2003
Delegates representing all companies from the Energy & Industry Sector met to coordinate and discuss matters of mutual interest in October for the 10th Strategic Qatarization Plan Steering Committee Meeting.
Among the items discussed, were the progress being made by interdisciplinary teams on attracting and retaining Qatari employees, as well as improving English language competence.
At the same meeting, plans were endorsed regarding the next update of the Strategic Qatarization Plan. The Steering Committee discussed and agreed on how Qatarization will be reported and measured beyond 2005. As a result, guidelines have now been distributed to all participating companies to prepare updates for a review meeting with His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Qatar's Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry, to be held in early 2004.
The final quarter of every year is the main period for recruiting Qatari Trainees. Advertisements were placed in local newspapers, schools were informed, and news of the recruitment campaign spread through word and mouth. A careers information booth was also placed in City Center, West Bay, Doha to answer questions raised by school leavers as well as the general public.
About 1,000 applications were reviewed and sorted according to trainee program – successful applicants are already undergoing training and further studies in QP’s Corporate Training Center, at Qatar Foundation’s Academic Bridge Program, at the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar, universities in Qatar and abroad, and with other training institutions here in Qatar.
Recruitment of eligible Qataris for the Energy and Industry Sector continues throughout the year - a further campaign will start early in 2004 to ensure that the best candidates fill the wide variety of interesting entry level opportunities available to young Qataris for the Energy and Industry Sector.
