12th Annual Qatarization Review Meeting

The Energy and Industry Sector, held its 12th Annual Qatarization Review Meeting on Thursday, 10 May at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. In his opening address His Excellency, Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, highlighted the successes the Sector has had managing its Qatari human capital strategies which have been gratefully supported by the education community in Qatar. The quality and quantity of Qataris in the Sector continued to rise during 2011. “This is a strong testament to our Qatarization Commitment”, said His Excellency, Dr. Al-Sada.

Chaired by His Excellency, Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, the meeting was attended by His Excellency, Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor Al-Thani, President, Qatar Statistics Authority, His Excellency, Dr. Saleh Mohamed Al-Nabit, Secretary General, General Secretariat for Development Planning, and Dr. Sheikha Al-Misnad, President, Qatar University. Senior executives and representatives from each of the 40 participating companies, along with dignitaries from Qatar’s education community and special guests were in attendance. With reference to Qatar's 2030 National Vision and the National Development Strategy 2011-2016, His Excellency urged company to establish strategies to support these important initiatives through implementing robust strategies, particularly in support of Qatari human capital management. “As we strive to meet our growing workforce demand, we need to recognize that the Qatari population is increasingly influenced by an ever changing information technology. Our company environments need to keep pace with this trend if we are to sustain the numbers of qualified Qataris needed to run our businesses.”

“I encourage all companies to remain vigilant and focused on building a competent and successful Qatari workforce”, His Excellency said, “We face a number of essential elements to focus our energy on. Human capital planning is key to the Energy and Industry Sector’s quality Qatarization drive; engaging the support of the Sector’s stakeholders to maintain a competitive edge; improving our communication channels with the education community, ministries and agencies; and maintaining and improving the quality and quantity of supply to meet our requirements.”

His Excellency, Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, honoured companies in the Energy and Industry Sector at the fourth Annual Qatarization Awards ceremony. The awards recognize companies, not individuals, who have consistently exhibited Qatarization excellence over the previous year. Recipients of the coveted Qatarization Crystal Awards for 2011 were RasGas Company Limited for Support and Liaison with the Education Sector; Qatar Petrochemical Company Ltd. for Supporting Qatarization; and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation for Support for Training and Development. Qatarization Certificates were also presented to Qatargas Operating Company Limited for Support and Liaison with the Education Sector; ExxonMobil Qatar Inc. for Supporting Qatarization; and Dolphin Energy Limited was awarded for Support for Training and Development.
Two young Qatari talents shared the responsibility of presenting the Sector’s Qatarization overview and key activities to the audience. Ms. Noora Ali Al-Kharji, Head of LNG Optimization, Qatargas and Ms. Mona M. Al-Jaber, Reservoir Engineer at Shell GTL.

The meeting concluded with a review of approaches on implementing the National Development Strategies. Distinguished panelists were His Excellency, Dr. Saleh Al Nabit, Secretary General, General Secretariat for Development Planning; Professor Saif S. Al-Sowaidi, Vice President, Institutional Planning and Development, Qatar University; Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary General, Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee; and Dr. Ilker Baybars, Dean, Carnegie Mellon University, Qatar. The panel moderator was Abdulaziz M. Al-Mannai, Manager, Human Resources, Qatargas Operating Company Limited.
