Doha, Qatar • 15 May 2017 – His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, led the sector’s 17th Annual Qatarization Review Meeting, during which a number of companies were honored in recognition of their accomplishments in the field of Qatarization.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum, as well as by senior officials and representatives from the 36 companies implementing the Strategic Qatarization Plan of the energy and industry sector. Also present during the event were senior executives from Qatar’s education community.

The meeting began with a welcome message by Mr. Hamad A. Al-Hamadi, Chairman of the Strategic Qatarization Committee, followed by a keynote address by the Minister of Energy and Industry.

H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada praised the efforts of all the organizations taking part in developing and implementing the Strategic Qatarization Plan, which has grown from 18 to 36 companies. He said “We have achieved, and maintained, a Qatarization percentage of 29% on the road to reaching our goal of a 50% Qatari workforce. The number of Qataris employed by the energy and industry sector has tripled from 2,900 to 9,300 in 16 years.”

In his keynote speech, Dr. Al-Sada highlighted the sector’s need for high caliber candidates and employees. He said “it is, therefore, important the curricula offered by educational and technical institutions are aligned to the specific requirements of our sector. I am pleased to see how responsive our educational partners are to our needs.”

“Process operators, maintenance technicians, and vocationally trained staff are vital to our industry. It is crucial we place greater emphasis on making those positions more attractive and equally rewarding for Qataris. We must find innovative ways to raise awareness of the importance of these positions,” His Excellency added.

The 17th Annual Qatarization Review Meeting featured presentations highlighting the sector’s progress in implementing their Qatari human capital strategies in support of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy.
